Maintenance of natural teak
Teak is an exclusive kind of wood, markedly strong and robust, and extraordinary durable and therefore, extremely suitable for the production of outdoor kitchen furniture.
Teak is a living material: under the influence of temperature and variations in humidity it can warp by shrinkage, expansion, etc. This results in haircracks, fissures and/or changes in color. However, this is a natural process, which cannot be prevented either by the manufacturing process, by the wood selection or by the special finishing. It is a feature that characterizes teak making each piece of furniture a unique specimen.
Another feature of teak is that is becomes harder and harder throughout the years. The natural oil in the wood protects your furniture and therefore, applying a protective layer becomes unnecessary. Whether or not to treat teak is a matter of personal taste.
When leaving teak in its original state, it acquires a silver-white platinum color with time, which many people consider an antique look with lots of charm and class. On the other hand, teak becomes darker if treated with teak oil. However, this treatment has to be repeated every year.
In both cases you clean teak with liquid soap, warm water and a brush.
You can also paint natural untreated teak quite well in every desired color.
